MIAMI.- La Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) informó hoy de que, debido a la altísima recepción de trabajos y el gran interés de participación, ha decidido extender hasta el 22 de enero el plazo de cierre del concurso periodístico Premio Excelencia Periodística 2010.
Hasta el presente, se han recibido 660 postulaciones. De ellos, casi la mitad en los últimos días. La nueva fecha de cierre es el 22 de enero del 2010, a las 12 de la noche y no habrá más extensiones.
En el premio, que se convoca anualmente, participa lo mejor del periodismo continental. Publicaciones y agencias noticiosas de más de 33 naciones de las Américas y del Caribe postulan sus mejores trabajos en español, portugués o inglés al concurso.
Los premios se hallan distribuidos en 11 categorías: relaciones interamericanas, derechos humanos, cobertura noticiosa, crónica, periodismo en profundidad, fotografía, caricatura, infografía, opinión, diario en la educación y mejor cobertura noticiosa en Internet. Se otorga, además, el Gran Premio SIP a la Libertad de Prensa, a una persona u organización con logros significativos a favor de la causa de la libertad de prensa.
Los premios se hallan distribuidos en 11 categorías:
1.- Relaciones interamericanas
2.- Derechos humanos y servicio a la comunidad
3.- Diario en la educación
4.- Opinión
5.- Cobertura noticiosa
6.- Periodismo en profundidad
7.- Crónica
8.- Fotografía
9.- Caricatura
10.- Infografía y
11.- Cobertura noticiosa en Internet.

IAPA EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES FOR
2009 EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARDS
MIAMI.- The Inter American Press Association reported today that due to the very high number of entries received and the great interest shown in participating it has decided to extend to January 22 the deadline for receipt of entries in the 2010 Excellence in Journalism Awards contest.
To date 660 entries have been received, almost half of them in recent days. The new deadline is midnight on January 22, 2010 and there will be no further extension.
The awards contest each year attracts the best and brightest of journalism in the Western Hemisphere. Publications and news agencies in some 33 nations in the Americas and the Caribbean submit their best works in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
The 11 awards categories are:
1.- Inter-American Relations
2.- Human Rights and Services to the community
3.- Newspaper in Education
4.- Opinion
5.- News Coverage
6.- in-Depth Reporting
7.- Features
8.- Photography
9.- Cartoons
10.- Info graphics, and
11.- Online News coverage.
